The reason I’m here today  [at the Kilometres for Communication event at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital on July 4, 2011] is because I want things better for the next generation of disabled people like us.

When I am by myself out in the world, some people come up to me with my communicator on my electric wheelchair and ask me if I’m learning my abc’s. Picture it, in the subway station, people walking or running here and there!  I think to myself, “Are you kidding me?”  I would be horrified if a preschooler was in the subway by themselves!

If we unite and show ordinary people we have a brain in our head, hopefully people will understand where we are coming from.
